Simulation is inspired by multimedia artist Lisa Reihana’s digital works and the processes in which they are created through film and screen culture. My design draws on the ways in which Reihana immerses the audience into her art in a way that is both captivating, historical and informative, whilst highlighting the process of the result.
The ground floor acts as a hub, providing a large screen and seating area that allows students to immerse themselves into Reihana’s mind, learning about her approaches and the sort of work that takes place within the building. A private workspace is tucked around the corner, designed for Reihana to continue creating and evolving her creative works alongside her visitors.
As students and members of the community travel upwards through the building, they are able to interact with multimedia processes and produce their own digital works with the help of large green and white screens. All lighting and film equipment is provided, so that students can push the limits of their imaginations without any setbacks.
Finally, the second floor is dedicated to an exhibition outlet in which two virtual realtiy stations provide a life-like, entirely immersive experience that allows users to enter and become part of not only Reihana’s, but their own creative works.
What was once a "cooking wall" in my project, 'Ihi & Wehi' has now been converted into a lighting display that entices people as they walk up and down the stairs. The fixture adds vibrance and ambience to the atmosphere.

Physical Model
I created a physical model of the Morrisons' Building as well as my design within it using a range of processes and modelling techniques. The base model, beams, columns, stairs and various parts of my design were made using a laser cutter. I installed LED lights behind one of my central walls to provide a glimpse into the atmosphere, and used real herbs and spices to visualise my 'ingredient wall.'
